Course Content:
Session 1: General Principles
This is the big vision of what we want to accomplish and why. It will be our guiding principle with all our work moving forward.
Session 2: Components of a Classroom
Here we’ll break down and talk in detail about the main components that should be present in a Montessori classroom. We’ll talk about how each of them works, what they add to the classroom, and talk about implementation strategies for these. (More details on each component is offered in the workshop series “Components of a Montessori Math Classroom.”)
Session 3: Examining Content Models
This session will examine different ways to think about math content – what to include and emphasize, the organization, sequencing, and flow. We’ll look at several different models of organizations and talk about the advantages and challenges of each.
Session 4: Putting it All Together
I’ll be sharing different models of what a class structure can look like daily, yearly, and over the course of 2-3 years. There will be lots of different options to examine, but the goal is to show what some of the different possibilities are and to demonstrate that there is not just one solution.
Session 5: Discussion
There will be a lot to unpack from the first four sessions, so this is the time to ask questions about general situations, specific aspects of classroom design, or general philosophy.
Session 6: Individual Follow-Up
These are one-on-one sessions to help with your specific needs. A time will be scheduled at a time this summer that makes sense with where you are in your planning and what needs you may have.
**Bonus feature!! The Math Institute has offered a review of each participant's curriculum after the workshop concludes and once you have had time to build your plan. You will have the opportunity to have 30 minutes of one-on-one time with a member prior to the start of the school year.
